THE GRIMSBY AND CLEETHORPES LADIES CHOIR
The Cleethorpes Ladies Choir was formed by the
late Vera Burton in 1971
and over the years has had many Festival successes.
The present Musical Director, Rita Grove, took
over in 2008
Exchange visits have been
made by the choir to choirs
in France, Germany (twice)
and Denmark (twice). On its
second visit to Denmark,
the Choir sang at the Tivoli
Gardens, Copenhagen.
The Choir has belonged to
the National Association
of Choirs for many years
and
is an active member of the
local group.
In 1996 the Choir changed
its name to Grimsby & Cleethorpes
Ladies Choir. The present membership Is 45 and a large and varied
repertoire is available.
Exchange concerts with other choirs, especially
Male Voice Choirs, take place
on a regular basis and various
Charities have benefited
from these performances.
Smaller concerts in aid of
local charities, singing
at weddings and visits to
entertain at Residential
Homes all contribute to a
busy
calendar of events.
In May 2000, the Choir undertook
a Concert Tour of Northern
Spain during which
they had the honour of singing
in
Barcelona Cathedral and in
June 2002 they travelled
to Southern Ireland where
concerts were given in Christchurch
Cathedral, Waterford, Fermoy
Community
Centre and Lismore Cathedral.
In December 2003, the Choir
joined with the other members
of Group 15 to present a
very successful Christmas Charity Concert.
In May 2000, September 2002
and May 2004, the Choir has
had the
privilege of hosting the
world famous Black Dyke Band
at concerts in the Central
Hall, Grimsby, which have
been attended by almost capacity
audiences.
In June 2006 the Choir visited
Tuscany and gave two concerts
in Florence, one in the Anglican
Church and one in The British
Institute.
The choir are members of the National
Association of Choirs, Lincolnshire Group
